In the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn, a new library and covered recess pavilion blends structural innovation with childhood wonder where learning and play seamlessly intertwine. Precision-engineered, modular timber elements connect through exposed joinery, celebrating the material while demonstrating structural principles.

Timber columns branch upward like trees, supporting the undulating canopy while defining intimate reading zones below. The modular system enables rapid assembly and future adaptability, while reducing on-site construction time and minimizing disruption to school activities.

Drawing inspiration from the beloved parachute game, dramatic canopies made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) polymers that crown each structure. Translucent membranes float above the rigid timber frame, creating a captivating tension between solidity and weightlessness.
